Dear Ruth,
I'm writing you in regards to the 13th annual Competitive Intelligence in Pharma conference, 27 & 28 January 2010 in Nice, France. I'm the programme manager for this conference working for VIBpharma (www.vibpharma.com) and currently putting together the programme. Given your expertise and your work with Grunenthal I would be delighted to have you on board as a speaker at this conference to share you knowledge and expertise with your peers.

Dear Ruth -- I hope that you are having an enjoyable Summer. I know that most people are away at the moment, I just wanted to check-in with you briefly to see whether you had any thoughts on the matter below and whether I could give you a call about this? I will be in the UK next week - 3-8th Sept., if of interest, perhaps we could schedule a preliminary discussion/meeting? Looking forward to hearing from you,
Kind rgds

Dear Ruth,

Thank you very much for your message and for accepting my connection request.

I had a look at your company website and I am very interested in your work in setting up a CI function. As you might have seen from my profile, I am based in Cambridge and also in Vienna and focus on Primary Research. I noted that your company is a global concern with HQ in Aachen. Should you have any requirements for CI research in German and English, I would be keen to introduce my capabilities further. I work closely with a Lecturer in Knowledge Management here in Vienna who specialises in the dissemination of information within organisations, so if we can be of assistance in setting up your CI function, then please get in touch.

In order to build a relationship, I would be prepared to do a preliminary project at cost, (within mutually agreed parameters) and have worked on a variety of pharma projects in the past. Moreover, I saw that you are exhibiting at the forthcoming Lisbon conference. In the past, I have been engaged by companies to mine intelligence at trade fairs as it is potentially an intelligence rich environment, so perhaps another potential area of collaboration.

In any case, stay in touch!

Thanks again,
Warm regards
Joanna

Walter, I can answer this one. Ok, first "big data" players usually means HP, Oracle, SAP, IBM. These firms are extraordinarily good at handling structured data (ie numbers) in relational databases, but they don't deal well with unstructured data,…

Oh, they are doing CI, lots of it, but they call it other things, like Data mining e.g. They solve many of the same problems but from an engineering perspective Klaus

I've been turning this one over and can't find a satisfactory explanation. Why don't we see more 'big data' players doing CI consulting.  It seems to me that companies like Google, with absurdly comprehensive environmental data, doing more to move…
