Hi Pat - welcome to the group. When you have a moment it would be lovely to have you join our CI Australia Group. This is where we hope to be able to network locally. There are other New Zealanders there already. Give my best to Glen Saunders. Do you work with him?
Nice to see we are getting some members joining from New Zealand. To introduce myself, I am the Managing Direct of Infoready who are a boutique consultancy that specialise in Information Management in particular CI, BI and Data Management. My particular specialisation is in technology / applications, solutions and process to enable Information Management (focussing mainly on CI at the moment). A few of us in the CI domain are currently trying to up our CI community in Australia and New Zealand so we can all help each other implement and operate world class CI functions. I also have a keen interest and lots of experience in Telco's in Australia. Let me know if there is anything I can help you out with. I would also be keen to hear about the CI function at Telecom NZ, and what software or technologies you use.
Hi, Richard. Thanks for mentioning Seena's book. I just ordered it from amazon and will see what it's like. I second Eric's recommendations on August Jackson's Competitive Intelligence Podcast. I'm almost finished listening to them all (only have th…
Arik, thanks for the response. I think you're right that everything being equal, we all tend to take our assumptions for granted and under-invest in planning for different possible scenarios. What do you do if the client doesn't appear open to havin…
A collective of professionals and passionate amateurs around the globe who analyze a world in transition and help guide leaders in their most critical decisions.
I am hoping they survey attendees and we can give them actionable feedback. Agree with you on the newbies and I noted there really wasn't any reference to SCIP's courses they offer (maybe the F&S influence?). I've been in CI a long time and would lo…
Yes, there were many complaints from the attendees that they weren't learning anything. I think they were there to "learn" how to improve their CI skills, If there was more information on how to take CI and grow at a company it would have been value…
It was great to be in the presence of so many fellow CI practitioners and it seemed like there was a lot of positive energy. I think F&S did a great job of revitalizing the event and definitely kudos to August Jackson and the SCIP people who volunte…
It is important to be updated on the latest gadets, which is much what this chat is about, but i agree, the main problem is rather - to keep with the language of Arthur - to know how to use the tools to build a good house. you can have the tools and…
Yes, the good old sales-rep intel problem. We looked at that with Sony Ericsson ten years ago (research project) when Intranet was still something new. sales people were not paid to enter intel, but to make sales. but they often knew more about cust…
No doubt Klaus that you are right. This need exists and the question how to set it up. I assume you remember the former Journal of Competitive Intelligence and Managemnt, by SCIP. I'm teaching CI in an MBA program in Israel, and I come across with t…
I agree with you Klaus and the task is huge. If there is a distribution of responsibilities, it can be done. There is a great need to share more about successes and challenges. We can learn a lot from each others particularly between continents sinc…
After the JCIM was put on ice there has been no major academic CI journal and the field has suffered much because of this.
During the past two years I have participated in a number of different conferences related to Business Intelligence and Compe…
Great post - glad you shared it Greg - thanks! Briefly, my view on the benefits of simulation and wargaming for decision-making are that these methods can more effectively disabuse us of our false assumptions than others because the human mind finds…
I did the online Applied Intelligence graduate certificate program at Mercyhurst College and found it useful for refining techniques of analysis and presentation, as well as cementing research and documentation requirements.
