Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a marketing & strategy professional with my roots in software development (way back when.) I'm all over new business models that make use of connectivity and technology to make doing business more effective, flexible, and less costly. I love discussing what's coming next and why. I like to relate it all back to our tenancy and stewardship of planet earth, and our responsibilities to generations to come.

For fun I run on trails, swim in the ocean, ride my horse, and adore my grandson.

My Interest in Competitive Intelligence is:
I am the Director of Marketing and Strategic Planning at NMB Technologies Corporation, a B2B components & service supplier. We are the sales and marketing arm of Minebea, a global manufacturer of electromechanical components including ball bearings, small motors, cooling fans, LED backlights, PC keyboards, and other good stuff. It's my job to help my company understand how we can survive and thrive in an American marketplace where large OEM manufacturers have moved offshore, companies are struggling, and sourcing/purchasing models are changing.

Walter, I can answer this one. Ok, first "big data" players usually means HP, Oracle, SAP, IBM. These firms are extraordinarily good at handling structured data (ie numbers) in relational databases, but they don't deal well with unstructured data,…

Oh, they are doing CI, lots of it, but they call it other things, like Data mining e.g. They solve many of the same problems but from an engineering perspective Klaus

I've been turning this one over and can't find a satisfactory explanation. Why don't we see more 'big data' players doing CI consulting.  It seems to me that companies like Google, with absurdly comprehensive environmental data, doing more to move…
