Hi Eric:

I still remember having a conversation with you at SCIP 08 in San Diego. I attended your workshop and during a break you told me how you have learnt spanish in DC.

Welcome to St. Louis! The musician in you should love it -- it's a great town for all kinds of music. I know the jazz and classical are especially strong. And your love of wine can be indulged at tasting & classes at places like the Wine Merchant. And if the linguist in you loves other nations' foods -- not just languages, there is the International Institute's Festival of Nations the last weekend of August.

Nice to meet you Eric! Hopefully you get back up to VT occasionally.

The focus of your company is really interesting. Do you ever use patents as a data source for making projections? Granted they are already a lagging indicator, but there is a lot of information contained in them that can help to reverse engineer competitors' strategies or extrapolate out new product offerings (e.g. Febreze as an fabric freshener to air freshener).

Nice way to learn a language! Indeed English and Dutch have a lot in common, although Dutch is supposedly impossible to pronounce ;). Thanks for reading my blog, wondered who it was.

Thanks for the invite, and thanks for the nice words about my blog :). I am working on a Dutch version, but I'm happy to know I will at least have one person reading it! You have Dutch roots then?

Regards.

Competitive Intelligence, Government Acquisitions, and a Hallucinogenic Future

With the bankruptcy of General Motors, our economy has finally hopped over the plane’s wing into the Twilight Zone. Not that this event was surprising to anybody with a cursory interest in money or cars - GM bet its future on the world’s endless thirst for bloated Hummers and Yukons and left quality and disruptive innovation to Asian rivals, all while locked into being America’s largest private provider of healthcare and pensions. You can get six Jack Welches, ten Peter Druckers and those guys w… Continue

I've been turning this one over and can't find a satisfactory explanation. Why don't we see more 'big data' players doing CI consulting.  It seems to me that companies like Google, with absurdly comprehensive environmental data, doing more to move…
