Craig S. Fleisher - Business Analysis and Competitive Intelligence

Profile Information

About Me:
Researcher, author, consultant, university professor, community volunteer, and distance cycling enthusiast. I'm probably best known in the CI community for having written a variety of books (which are in over a dozen languages) on competitive analysis and managing competitive intelligence. These are published by Financial Times, Greenwood, Praeger, Pearson, Prentice Hall, and FT Press, among others. I was originator and inaugural chair of the Competitive Intelligence Foundation (CIF, Washington, DC), past President and Board Member of the international association of Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP), founding editor of the Journal of Competitive Intelligence and Management, and am a SCIP Meritorious Award winner for lifetime contributions to the field and a SCIP Fellow. Around the globe, I regularly conduct workshops and/or teach individuals of all experience levels subjects such as managing competitive intelligence, business and competitive analysis, competitive technical intelligence (CTI), strategic management, business planning and policy. An internationally-focused academic who has held two B-school deanships and endowed research chairs, full professorships at several universities and presented or taught in over forty countries, I am the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) at one of the globe's top CI consultancies Aurora WDC, Docent in Business Information Management at Tampere University of Technology (FI), graduate MScom faculty member at Università della Svizzera italiana (CH), and also associated with Leicester Business School (UK), Pretoria (ZA), Coastal Georgia (US), and Windsor (CA).

Video discussion with Arik Johnson about developing elite analysts

Posted on September 8, 2011 at 10:30pm 0 Comments

I am working these days on a new model of CI capability called analytical fitness. It is derived in part from my research on analysis techniques, some of which has been shared in several of my books (they can be found here on my CI2020 site), as well as some additional research Aurora is conducting. You can learn more about this by seeing me discuss it with noted CI expert Arik Johnson at …

The Next Gen, Business and CI

Posted on March 3, 2009 at 7:36am 1 Comment

Lately, I've been doing a lot of thinking as well as presenting to a variety of community, interest and professional groups about workforce and career development issues. The research I'm doing in this sphere is both interesting and potentially important, not the least of which because we are in a recessionary context, but also because the workplace of future decades (2010+) is likely to have different characteristics than the ones I became so familiar with over the last 20-30 years. Think… Continue

Can MBA students learn to effectively do competitive analysis?

Posted on December 19, 2008 at 5:14pm 0 Comments

I just finished my most recent MBA course teaching Business and Competitive Analysis to our newest crop of students here at the University of Windsor's Odette School of Business. I actually did this version of the course over two straight weeks, with only a weekend in between to allow people a chance to absorb the material. It was a fast and wild ride, but the students and I seem to have come through it okay. It was nice seeing them rise to the challenge, as I've always been known as a… Continue

Thank you Craig. Likewise I look forward to both interact with you along 2011 as well as to have your relevant contribution on the IntelCollab initiative.

I got really caught up with Resilience concept and your comment on the lack of research in the area even more. Would you be interested/available to co-author a paper on the subject of Resilience?

Excellent Article: Knowing Why You Lose Won’t Always Help You Win: Sales and Marketing Intelligence

I recently came across an article written by Allen Armstrong, that I want to share with the Sales and Marketing Group. It questions the focus of many Win-Loss Programs (which are in general to much focussed on the loss part) and gives some food for thought for improving the current setup. Enjoy reading!…See More
